Intestinal roundworm
There is not a respiratory system for the uptake or distribution of oxygen. Rather, nutrients and waste are distributed in the body cavity, whose contents are regulated by an excretory canal along each side of the body. There is not distinct organ for respiration.
Heartworm
Heartworms do not contain a respiratory system. Their cells give off carbon dioxide and pick up oxygen from the moist environment. Their environment is the heart which is perfect conditions for them because an ample amount of Carbon Dioxide is found in the blood. If they are placed in a dry environment they will die. However, there is still no distinct organ for respiration.
Gas exchange and excretion are caused by diffusion across the body wall of the roundworm. There is no distinct organ for respiration in this species of round worm.
